The pros and cons of buying an existing home versus new construction.
If you’re thinking of purchasing a home, you might be wondering whether you should buy an existing home or go with a new construction property. Each option has its pros and cons, so today I want to discuss both and help you make your decision.
One of the great things about existing homes is that a lot of the features like window coverings, fences, and sometimes even a pool are already done and included in the price. Existing homes might also be on a larger lot than is offered in new construction communities. On top of that, the neighborhood around it will have nice, lush, mature landscaping.
The downside is that the home is older, so you’ll have to consider its age when it comes to maintenance. You may even need to repair or replace some major components like the plumbing, AC, water heater, and roof.
“With new construction, it can be easy to overspend if you’re not careful.”
With a new construction home, you won’t have to factor in the age of any of those components, because they’ll be brand-new. Purchasing new construction also gives buyers the ability to select their own finishes and upgrades. However, be careful—upgrades come at a price.
A downside to new construction is that you have to pay a premium to customize your options, and it can be easy to overspend if you’re not careful with your budget.
